Sustainable Building Concepts© is a Colorado based consulting firm whose goal is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and managed, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. SBC works with individual, civic, corporate and non-profit clients to promote energy management and the construction of neighborhoods, buildings that are profitable, sustainable and healthy places to live and work.
SBC specializes in optimal outcomes by representing project clients as team members with the architects and contractor. By utilizing this team approach and identifying sustainable strategies based on an integrated building design system and computer modeling, SBC fosters achievable expectations and lower life-cycle costs.
We have adopted The 2030 Challenge http://www.architecture2030.org/ by Architecture 2030 as a guideline for reaching our goals. This challenge, adopted by The American Institute of Architects (AIA), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Architecture 2030, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) represents a common objective,
Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) is typically developed in the pre-design phase of a project to assist the team with understanding the owner's objectives and criteria for the project. Information about the project is gathered from the users and supplements the designers programming efforts. The OPR forms the basis for all expectations and design.
Our approach is achieved via the Integrated Design Process (IDP) for strategic management, building design and construction. We believe that the whole-system approach inherent in the IDP results in projects with minimal additional cost and creates tremendous value recognized through energy savings, occupant security, occupant health, and increased property value.
What we do
Client Advocates. We assist clients in defining achievable via the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and cost effective goals for projects and advocate throughout the design and construction process to help reach the client’s goals and expectations. We are the independent eyes and ears for the owner of a building in new construction or in renovation of existing buildings. Our background in strategic management, sustainability and green buildings informs us to ask appropriate questions when they must be asked.
Team Builders. We help clients identify a team of professionals (Architects, Engineers, Energy Modelers, Commissioning agents, Contractors, construction sub-contractors) who work within the IDP.
LEEDâ. We are advisors on the entire LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and green building process. We are meeting facilitators, project reviewers, LEED administrators, Team LEED trainers for clients, contractors, and sub-contractors, LEED building operational manual writing, LEED building marketing. We assist the client in achieving the highest LEED certification level consistent with the project goals and funding. <http://www.usgbc.org>
Expectation Developers. The Project team is guided by SBC to identify client requirements, appropriate aesthetics, site integration, energy efficiency, resource efficiency, Indoor environmental quality, and water quality. By coordinating the setting of goals, monitoring the progress toward project milestones and integrated energy efficiency parameters by the full team, we assure expectations are met.
Sustainability, Energy and Management. SBC associates are experienced in Strategic Planning, Discovery and Facilitation Techniques, Charrette and Meeting Management, Energy management and problem-solving. Our ability to scale up for management projects is a core asset. Through our associates we create ‘virtual’ organizations to fit project requirements and budgets, avoiding costly overhead. Once completed and depending on Commissioning, SBC can employ a Facility Performance Evaluation or FPE to ensure ongoing design requirements.
Our Limitation .
We do not do the job of other professionals such as architects, engineers, commissioning agents, contractors, construction sub-contractors or decision makers. We are team facilitators and client advisors.
